Bill Billings was born in London in 1938 attended school until the age of 15 and served his apprenticeship as a printer.
He was awarded a scholarship to attend St Martin's College of Arts but never enrolled.
Essentially an underprivileged person himself, Bill has formed his character and career from his resourcefulness and courage.
His career in the arts started as a poet under the tutorage of Jack Story.,
himself a well-known raconteur and poet.
Bill's success as a poet brought him the self styled title 'Poet Lorryate .
His work with Jack encompassed publishing and work on television and radio in the 1970's and 80's
Bills work is inspired by many artforms, poetry, sculpture, painting and drawing, comics and art history.
He is a musician and playwright. His diversity is testament to a creative genius and his work with children,
young people and to those within the prison service, presents a man with an uncanny ability to be at one with
all people. Bill is widely respected by all who work with him.
In 1986 Bill was awarded an honorary Degree from the Open University.
In 2000 he received an MBE for his work as an inspiring artist working with communities in Milton Keynes.
